• A new “Year of Edits” video showing the contributions to OSM in 2012 can be found here. Thank you very much Derick Rethans!
• Many of you already know: the OSM project has more than 1 000 000 registered members since last week. You can find some online articles at TPM or futurzone.at (German) and some additional statistics by Harry Wood and Pascal Neis (at the end of the article).
• The Humanitarian OSM Team (HOT) wrote a review of their year 2012 and an outlook on 2013. Furthermore Mapbox helped to improve some satellite imagery that makes tracing data for OSM easier.
• New aerial imagery for South Africa to trace OSM data is available now.
• A few weeks ago, Frederik Ramm wrote a blog post about what would happen if every Mapper would contribute 1.000 addresses to OSM. Now he has created a list of accounts that have added addresses. You can find similar information at “How did you contribute to OpenStreetMap?“.
• Dan Stowell wrote an article about “Data visualisation of pubs in UK & Eire” based on OSM data.
• A new (beta) version of the OSM WatchList by Paweł Paprota is online, read his announcement here.
• Pascal Neis created a new webpage where you can see other contributors in your area.
• Some statistics showing the usage of the OSM Pushpin editor.
• Alex Barth created a proposal for an “OSM contributor mark“. You can read and of course discuss the entire idea at the OSM talk mailing list.
• The MapBox Satellite is available for tracing in JOSM for anybody now. Read the announcement here.
• A new Kickstarter project introduces a GPS watch with a two inch screen and OSM maps.
• There will be a few OSM events in the upcoming weeks:

A summary of all the things happening in the OpenStreetMap (OSM) world.

• The call for venues for the next State of the Map (SotM) 2013 is open. You can submit your proposal here.
• The OSM project has a new server in France for Tile Content Delivery Network (CDN).
• Data imports to OSM have been discussed on the OSM US mailing list. A different thread involved a discussion about what the trademark policy should look like.
• A first alpha version of the new OSM data editor iD is available online.
• To all OSM developers: Is your OSM source code ready for 64bit Node-IDs?
• Ronald Olbricht created a minutely up-to-date housenumber map based on his overpass API. You can use it to see where e.g. house numbers or other address related information is still missing.
• Almost all street lights of trunk roads and motorways within London (UK) have finally been mapped in OSM. You can see the results at the ITO highway lighting map.
• A nice example of OSM data utilization: The Hobbit Filming Locations Map.
• Chris Herwig wrote a blog post about the troubles he had with geoportals during the creation of the Mapbox Satellite layer.
• Jochen Topf wrote a final report about the Multilingual Maps Project.
• The OSMFight game, which you can play between two OSM contributors, has two new rounds.
• A new version of MapOSMatic is online. With MapOSMatic you can create maps of cities based on OSM data.
• The BeWelcome project uses OSM maps for their website now. BeWelcome is a culture crossing network that lets you share a place to sleep, meet up and help others on their way. It is a non-profit organization run by volunteers.
• Kort is a new open source mobile game app that helps improving OSM data. So far it is in a test phase, but you can read and see some more details in the OSM wiki.
• Thomas Rupprecht created a new Firemap which shows all mapped OSM fire stations on an interactive online map. You can find the demo page here and source code on github.

• Andy Allan re-implemented the standard OpenStreetMap mapnik style in CartoCSS.
• A blog post about the first design phase of the new OSM editor ID and a demo version can be found here.
• The Los Angeles Times contributes LAFD fire stations to OSM. Have a look at the OpenFireMap and read the article here.
• All documents and slides of the “International Meeting of Crowdsource Mapping for Disaster Risk Management and Emergency Response” are online. You can read more about the event here.
• Harry Wood wrote a blog post about the last London Hack-weekend. Great picture btw. Harry 😉 Harry’s XAPI URL Builder also supports the Overpass API now.
• Mapbox launched a new satellite layer. You can find some additional information on how to use the new data for OSM tracing here.
• The well-known OSM Importer for PostGIS: Imposm, now supports PostGIS 2.0.
• A first version of “addressmerge” has been released. This tool allows to post-process address data by comparing it with existing OSM data.
• A blog post by Frederik Ramm: Have you got your 1,000 house numbers already?
• How to visualize London’s buildings with 3D mapping, a blog post by Tom Holderness.
• OSM 3D buildings for your 3d glasses.
• The Geofabrik added the timestamp to its well known OSM PBF extracts. Read more about the new information in the header of the files here.
• Vizrt uses OSM to provide global street maps for broadcasters.

• A first demo page of a multilingual OpenStreetMap map is online. You can join the discussion at the OSM mailing list.
• A new OSM online editor that specializes in translating place names. 
• Call for Papers for the Open Source & OpenStreetMap FOSSGIS 2013 conference (German language), which will be held in Switzerland.
• A new open access research article about automated vandalism detection in OpenStreetMap can be found here.
• A new online game, named Train Lord, uses OSM as a basemap.
• When will the OpenStreetMap Project reach 1 000 000 registered Members?
• Katrina Engelsted did a series of interviews with people who are working with the HOT project.
• Some OpenStreetMap projects created by students at the University of Heidelberg.
• OSM.org uses Leaflet for map zooming and panning now.

• The first videos of the SOTM US conference have been uploaded to Youtube.
• The fist OSM Garmin Hack Weekend will take place in Essen, Germany in March 2013. You can find additional information here.
• A first prototype integration of OpenStreetBugs on the Main OSM page has been accomplished. You can follow the discussion here.
• The OSM Top Ten Tasks have been revised. You can find additional information in the working group’s minutes.
• Tom MacWright about the development of the new OSM Editor iD. He also created a video which shows the evolution of the OSM changesets over the past few years.
• Pascal created several maps which show the distribution of active OSM mappers per country, population and area.
• Some James Bond fans mapped Hashima Island known from the movie Skyfall. How does it compare with Google Maps?
• A Leaflet-Port of the Main OSM webpage. You can find the source code on github.
• Andy Allan is porting the well-known OSM Mapnik style to CartoCSS.

• Thank you very much to Yandex for providing a new Tile-Server in Moscow.
• The OSM User page supports Gravatar user images now. You can activate this in your user settings.
• The OpenStreetMap website and API are now available via IPv6.
• After the “Night of the Living Maps” we have a new event coming up. “Operation Cowboy” is a Global Mapathon event. Read more about it here.
• Richard Fairhurst and the new OSM Javascript editor iD. Tom MacWright wrote a blog post about it too.
• An article about the first two weeks of the new Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) EUROSHA project.
• OSM data density on a map.
• Frederik Ramm wrote about the “Anti Business” allegations.
• The “How did you contribute to OpenStreetMap?” webpage got an update. Read more information in a blog post.
• Simon Poole created a new “live” layer with streets which have no name.
• Martijn van Excel wrote a blog post about OSM US TIGER Deserts.
• MapRoulette has a new Challenge: Connectivity Bugs. You can also find several other potential error sources at the OSM Inspector website and its Routing layer.
• Tom MacWright wrote an article about “CSS For Maps“.
• The source code of the iOS POI+ editor and FixMyStreets have been released.
• Mike Niceman published some source code which allows the conversion of OSM to GTFS data.

• The OpenLayers project is calling for funding. You can support this great project here.
• Tom Hughes added functionality similar to OpenStreetBugs to the main OSM site. You can find some additional information here.
• Last weekend the State of the Map Scotland was held in Edinburgh. You can find some information at the wiki page or in the tweets by Shaun McDonald.
• ITO introduced a new video at the State of the Map US conference, which shows edits made in the United States from 2007 to 2012. Martin Davis published some notes about the State of the Map US in his blog.
• A new streaming replication mechanism has been developed to keep a local OSM database up to date.
• You can find Alex Barth’s summary and wishlist regarding future work at MapBox, based on the Knight Foundation funding.
• Do you want to actively contribute to the Leaflet project? Leaflet is an open-source JavaScript library for mobile-friendly interactive maps. Find more about it here.
• The OSM Inspector has a new layer with routing errors (islands) which is provided by the OSRM Team. Find more information in Dennis’ blog post.

• A new Australian tile mirror is online and overall the OSM project has four worldwide mirrors now. Additional mirrors are always welcome.
• Ilya Zverev created a new web service: Who Did it? – It shows the latest changes made to the OSM data.
• The HOT project is looking for an OSM Trainer.
• How can we welcome new OSM members? A proposal for a working group by Richard Weait.
• Mark Iliffe wrote a manifesto for an OSM Academic Working Group.
• Chris Lawrence developed a tool to cleanup GPS traces and create ways: osm-makeroads.
• Lanyrd.com, a social conference directory, also switched to OSM to visualize conference locations on a map. For example the SotM US.
• Pushpin is a new iOS (iPad & iPhone) OSM POI Editor.
• The source code of Paweł Paprota’s “OpenStreetMap Activity Server” is online at github now.
• All OpenStreetBugs of 2008-2011 have been moved to a different map.

• The new chairman of the OSMF-Board is Simon Poole, new secretary is Frederik Ramm and Oliver Kühn remains treasurer. Working Group Minutes will follow in a while.
• The Knight Foundation supports OSM with a grant of $575,000 to “improve the core infrastructure of OpenStreetMap”.
• Ilya Zverev created an OSM GPS Points Map based on the OSM GPX planet dump.
• A new Coastline-View has been integrated into the OSM Inspector. You can find more information about the OSMI and the Coastline-View in the OSM Wiki. Paul Norman created some new coastline files too.
• The Online OSM Routing Engine Gosmore is searching for a sponsored server.
• Andrew Buck built a Virtual Machine with an OSM tile and geocoding server.
• Bing has some new satellite imagery.
• There is an open position with the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team and EUROSHA Project. The Worldbank is also looking for a new team member.

• OpenStreetMap changed its license to the ODbL. You can find the official blog post here and the first ODbL OSM planet dump file here. Please re-import your databases accordingly.
• Congratulations to the newly elected OSMF board members: Frederik Ramm, Henk Hoff and Simon Poole.
• You will find all recorded sessions of the State of the Map 2012 conference which was held in Tokyo in the OSM wiki.
• ITO published some great new videos showing five years of edits in Japan and four years of worldwide edits 2008-2011.
• Christian Quest created a really nice webpage to show live edits that are made to the OSM project. Also the Java tool OSMZmiany shows you the latest changes in the OSM database.
• A blog post about the HOT at the Tech Camp in Dakar. You can also help the HOT with their new website.
• Pascal Neis published an “I Like OpenStreetMap” OpenLayers Plugin. It allows the user to leave a like or dislike feedback about the condition of a certain area in OpenStreetMap. You can find more information here and in a blog post here.
• Martijn van Excel created some nice tools to fix errors created by the redaction bot. Give it a try here.
• The next OSM Hack Weekend in Germany is planned for the first October weekend.
• Tom MacWright wrote a blog post about “Running Maps” and his 3D demo.
• The webpage of the fast OSM Open Source Routing Machine got an update to Leaflet 0.4.
• The Overpass API offers Augmented Minute Diff files now. You can use it to update an OSM database for a certain area.
• Are you interested in Mapper Cards? Richard Weait created some.
• The webpage wheelmap.org has a new dashboard to show some statistics and information about places in several metropolitan areas that are providing a friendly environment for disabled or handicapped people.
• Stamen Designs published a service Map2Image to create your own OSM printouts. You can try it here.
• Sage CRM has an OSM Module now, which has been created by the Sage community.
